3 Concerts - Johanna Sulkunen & Randi Pontoppidan

    20:30

    Klub Primi, Halmtorvet 15, Copenhagen

20:30 Johanna Elina Sulkunen & Randi Pontoppidan DUO

Acoustic investigations of what voice can do — no loops or machines, just bare and naked vocal improvisation(s). With different backgrounds and approaches to music-making, they share a common understanding of the communication and improvisation, and a deep love for constant investigation for their instruments. The two vocalists have worked together in different constellations for the past years. Now they are ready for their debut concert! Intimate, explosive, emotional, and everything in between!

Kahina Orchestra’ are an ensemble with vocals, wind and string instruments. The music is open, improvised and based on compositional ideas by Johanna Sulkunen and Randi Pontoppidan. Improvisation is their primary tool for composition and they will create a net of sounds, and stories by compositional ideas and big soundscapes.

The focus points are sound and communication

‘Kahina’ is an Arabic title meaning “prophetess” or “seer” or “witch”.

She is said to have had supernatural powers, which enabled her to foretell

the future. ‘Kahina’ is also a word in Finnish standing for a rustling,

    whining sound.
